He stopped at the opening between their rooms and leaned his hand against the wall. He didn't look at her. He'd hurt her, embarrassed her, so she'd struck back. Still, the way she could turn off her softer emotions and become "Officer Ice" in the blink of an eye proved to Chris that D.J. could never be the woman for him. He could deal with honest emotion, but when she shut everything off like a power switch he didn't know what to do.
"You opened the door," Chris told her, startling himself with the coldness of his own voice. "Not me. What are you trying to pull, D.J.?"
Chris sensed D.J.'s growing fury, though her voice revealed no such emotion. "The last time I touched that door, McCall, I locked it. I don't know what you're trying to pull. I'm not so hard up for sex I'd lower myself to seducing you. Now, if you don't mind, I want you the hell out of my room so I can put on my pants.
